Ageing in Jane Austen: Book Launch, Talk and Book Signing at Chawton House
Popular authors Maggie Lane and Hazel Jones will be visiting Chawton House on Friday 20th February. Both authors have published extensively on the subject of Jane Austen and will be talking about their work.
Maggie Lane will be discussing her book Growing Older With Jane Austen, a text which, for the very first time, closely examines the concept of ageing within Austen’s work. Lane refers to some of Austen’s most lively characters with the likes of old wives, old maids and merry widows, to explore the subject. The book draws on both Austen’s work her personal correspondences. Aging is a perennial concern and Austen’s approach to the perils and consolations of growing older is bound to resonate with many readers.
Hazel Jones will be discussing her text, Jane Austen’s Journeys which explores the subject of travel within Austen’s work. Travel was becoming an increasingly significant part of everyday life during Jane Austen’s lifetime and is a key feature of many of Austen’s novels. Jones refers to Austen’s own work and letters in addition to archive material to provide the context for the heightened popularity of travel during the Georgian era.
Guests will have the chance to have their books signed by both authors.
Tickets are £11 with concessions available. For more information, visit the event page.
