Stargazing with Simon Armitage and Maura Dooley
Poetry fans have plenty of events to choose from this February at Jane Austen’s House Museum. The Museum’s in-house poet Maura Dooley will be joined by award winning poet Simon Armitage on the 26th of February for a special reading reflecting his interest as an amateur astronomer. Armitage will also explore his recently published collection, Paper Aeroplane.
Armitage is one of Britain’s leading poets and has received numerous awards, including the Sunday Times Young Author of the Year, the Lannan Award and the Keats Shelley Prize. In 2010, he was awarded with a CBE for service to poetry. In addition to his work as a poet, he has also created award winning work for radio, television and screen.
The evening will begin at the Museum for readings of star related poetry. This will be followed by a walk through the streets of Chawton Village to Chawton House to gaze at the sky. The evening will conclude with more poetry and refreshments in the Great Hall.
The evening begins at 6.30. Tickets are £10, see the website for more information.
